The Effect of Fluoride Mouth rinsing Program on Dental Health of School Children



Abstract
In order to measure the effect of the sodium fluoride mouth rinsing program, oral examination and questionnaire was done to the 200 children in 6th grade of the ¢¥N¢¥ primary school in Taegu city(study group) and 195 children in 6th grade of the ¢¥0¢¥ primary school(control group) neighboring to the ¢¥N¢¥ school.

The results were as follows.

In the first grade, the results of oral examination of study group had been more poor than control group.

Six years later after implementation of the program, DMF rate, DMFT rate, DMFS rate and DT rate of study group were all lower than control group. Among the results DMFT rate and DMFS rate were significantly lower than control group(p<0.01). FT rate was not significantly higher than control group.

The DMFT index and DMFS index per child were significantly lower than control group(p<0.05). Debris index was slightly fair than control group.

Daily tooth-brushing frequency was about 2 times at both group.

There were also no significant difference between the two groups about intake frequency of caries-inducing foods and pure food intake. 87.0% of the school children, 72.7% teacher, 96.7% parents were responded this program to be beneficial for dental health. But didn¢¥t understand about the purpose of the program correctly.

Thus oral hygiene of study group was better than control group, But tooth-brushing practice was not changed.

So from the results, following is required to increase the effect of this.

.program and to develop this program as national oral health enterprise.

Instruction about the purpose of the program and right tooth brushing method to the children, class teacher and parents, improvement in facilities (drainage and water supply) or draw up a new plan, positive cooperation of class teacher about the program, continuous evaluation about the program and administrative support and technical supervision of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.
